Elizabeth (Nolan) McNabb

Elizabeth M. McNabb (Nolan) “Liz”, age 94, formerly of Wilmington and East Boston, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2019, at home in Delray Beach, FL.

Liz was born and raised in East Boston, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Aaron and Anastasia Nolan. Liz was the oldest of nine siblings and part of a large, loving family. Liz attended Sacred Heart school and was a graduate of East Boston High School. Throughout her life, Liz, was a devout Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Parish in East Boston as well as St. Dorothy’s Church in Wilmington.

In 1945, Liz married Bill McNabb; the lived in East Boston before moving “up country” to Wilmington in the mid 1950’s where they settled on Fitz Terrace by Silver Lake. Liz and Bill raised four wonderful children and had many great times at their home. Liz was took great care of her home and family; she had an open door policy and all were welcome. Liz looked forward to the family gatherings and the yearly clam bake and baseball games that they held on Silver Lake and Melzar’s field.

Liz was always a hard worker, in her early days during the war, Liz and her sisters all worked for “Ma Bell” telephone company. Liz also worked at the Avco Cafeteria for several years before taking a position at Sweetheart Plastics in Wilmington. In later years, Liz, went to work for the Wilmington School System where she was active at the Shawsheen Elementary and West Intermediate Schools. Liz loved working with and seeing all her students on a daily basis; she was always so friendly and pleasant.

In her spare time, Liz, enjoyed doing her crossword puzzles, trying her luck at scratch tickets, visits with her family and spending time with her grandchildren whom she adored.

Liz was quite a lady; she was kind, caring and always made others feel welcomed; she went out of her way to help her neighbors and friends especially when they were sick she would be cooking and putting meals on their table. Liz will forever be missed by her family and friends.

Liz was the beloved wife of the late William McNabb, devoted mother of Robert McNabb & his wife Susan of Wilmington, the late Donna Peddle & her husband George of Billerica, Lori Bicknell & her late husband Daniel of Del Ray Beach, FL and William McNabb of Woburn. Loving “Nana” of Sean, Jennifer, Tara and Lauren McNabb, Caitlin McNabb, David and Matthew Peddle, Jacquelyn Wolf, Jesse and Aaron Bicknell, and great grandchildren Taylor, Maggie, Benjamin, Finley, Bedelia, Clovie, Calie, Jack, Cadence, Owen and Lucas. Cherished daughter of the late Aaron and Anastasia (Bishop) Nolan, dear sister of Francis Nolan & wife Norma formerly of Wilmington, the late Rev. William Nolan, Raymond Nolan, Aaron “Spike” Nolan, John Nolan, Mary McArdle, Ann McGrath and Helen Salsman. Liz is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, August 16th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Family and friends will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Parish, 45 Brooks St., East Boston, on Saturday, August 17th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a graveside burial service at Wildwood Cemetery, 233 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to the Volen Center, 850 N Congress Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33445 or to Vitas Healthcare 5912 Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33484.

    Lori,
    I am so sorry to hear of the death of your mom. I read the obituary in the town crier and it’s one of the most beautiful obituary I have ever read.
    Your mom sounds like she’s a fantastic person and loving caring woman who loved her family as well as her neighbors.
    May she Rest In Peace and may you be comforted by all your memories.

    I am so sorry for your loss. She was a great lady and one of the funniest ladies I’ve ever met. Sounds like she was loved by many, and will be missed by so many. Love to you and all of your family.
