Eric D. Steeves, Sr.

September 15th, 2015

Eric D. Steeves, Sr., age 46, of Wilmington, died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 14, 2015, at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Eric was born in Boston, MA on August 12, 1969; he was the dear son of Shirley (Junkins) and the late David Steeves. Eric was raised and educated in Reading, MA and was a graduate of Reading High School with the Class of 1989.

In 1995, Eric met his “best friend and soul mate” Tammy Oliveira; the couple married and lived in Lowell for a few years before moving to Wilmington in 2003 to make a “new home”. Eric and Tammy had three great kids Eric Jr., Zachary, and Megan; family was everything to Eric, they were his “whole world” and he always showered them with unconditional love.

Eric was so proud of his children, he cherished the countless hours he spent watching them play sports and attending their school functions. Eric was at every soccer, hockey, lacrosse, and baseball game that his kids played; he was always there to root on all the kids on the team; he was their #1 fan.

Eric was a hard worker; for many years he worked as a heavy equipment operator for the American Sweeping Company; spending more than 13 of those years in Boston and Dorchester. Eric liked his job and his fellow workers; he made many friends throughout the years.

Eric was also a “jack of all trades” who was always helping someone build a deck, paint a room or house, make countless repairs, or fix anything that was in need of fixing; everyone knew they could count on Eric for help no matter what.

Eric will be fondly remembered for his nicknames “Big Juicy” or “Big E”, his love of classic rock, his bright blue eyes, and a killer smile. Eric was truly a caring man, very family oriented and friendly; he was kind to all he met. Eric was truly “one of a kind” who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Eric was the beloved husband of Tammy M. (Oliveira) Steeves, devoted father of Eric D. Jr., Zachary D., and Megan A. Steeves all of Wilmington. Dear son of Shirley Slack of Reading and the late David Steeves, brother of Leslie Bailey & her husband Graham of North Reading, Amy Sweeney & her husband Daniel Faucon of Reading, and Patrick Sweeney & his wife Dominique of Cleveland, OH. Loving Uncle of Justin, Tyler, Kate, Vincent, and Michaela. Son-in-law of Patricia and the late Tom Ciampa of Andover and George Oliveira Jr. of East Boston. Brother-in-law of George Oliveira III of Everett. Eric is also survived by a large extended family and many dear friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, September 18th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 12:00 noon. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, September 17th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Eric’s memory may be made to the Steeves’ Children Educational Fund at Citizens Bank, c/o Tammy Steeves, 14A Hobson Ave., Wilmington, MA 01887.
