Albert Guarino

April 5th, 2014

Albert Guarino, age 88, of Wilmington, died peacefully at home with his loving daughter at his side on April 2, 2014.

Albert was born in Mirabella, Italy on August 25, 1925; he was the dear son of the late Carlo and Lucia Guarino.  Albert immigrated to the United States as a young boy and settled with his family in East Boston where he was raised and educated.

Albert married Eleanor McNeil on August 14, 1955; they lived in East Boston for several years before settling in Wilmington in the mid 1960’s to raise their two children, Albert Jr. and Donna.

Prior to retiring, Albert was the produce manager for Stop& Shop for more than 25 years before taking a position at The Farm Stand and finally at Bread and Circus Supermarket.  Albert was very dependable and reliable; he cared greatly for his customers, and worked hard for many years.

Following his retirement, Albert liked to go on car rides, he didn’t necessarily need a destination but one of his favorite spots was the Honeydew Donut Shop in Wakefield.  Albert also enjoyed going for long walks and as his health declined, his daughter Donna, as well as his granddaughter Christine and his “Goombah” Chris Hagan still took him out and about to Cumberland Farms and around the neighborhood in his wheelchair so he could still enjoy the outdoors.

Albert will be fondly remembered as a devoted dad, who loved his family unconditionally.  He was also a very generous and thoughtful person. Albert was the first person in his family to own and drive a car.  He was very generous to his extended family by offering rides and letting them borrow his prized automobile.  When televisions were invented, Albert bought his parents their first T.V.  He was also a quiet guy, a good neighbor, and a huge Red Sox Fan.  Albert will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Albert was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor (McNeil) Guarino, devoted father of Donna Guarino and Albert Guarino, Jr. both of Wilmington, loving Grampa of Christine Guarino, cherished son of the late Carlo and Lucia Guarino, dear brother of Anna Brett of Newington, CT, the late Rose Sirianni, Angelo Guarino, Joseph Guarino, and Jessie Burri, Albert is survived by his brother-in-law Cliff Burri, Sr. of East Boston, as well as many nieces and nephews.
