Alexandrena (DiCecca) Mitrano

Alexandrena Mitrano (DiCecca), age 94, of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Beverly Hospital.

Alexandrena was born on July 27, 1922 in Somerville, MA; she was the daughter of the late Erasmo “Raymond” and Annie (DeFraia). Alexandrena was raised and educated in Somerville and part of a large and loving Italian family.

Alexandrena married the “love of her life” Salvatore Mitrano on September 22, 1946; the couple shared nearly 62 years of marriage before his passing in September of 2008. Alexandrena and Sal raised six wonderful children and moved to Wilmington in 1962. Alexandrena was a very devoted and loving wife, mother; grandmother, great-grandmother and even a great-great-grandmother; who looked forward to spending time with her family.

She made a wonderful home where she welcomed everyone. She was an amazing cook who enjoyed feeding everyone who came into her home. Alexandrena also loved to be outdoors; whether it was working in her garden or sitting on her deck for hours enjoying the nature that surrounded her she thought it was just beautiful outside.

Alexandrena was very talented when it came to crafts; she could sew, knit, crochet and quilt; sharing her many beautiful pieces with her family and friends.

Alexandrena was also a woman of great faith and for many years she along with her husband Sal were very active at St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Wilmington.

For over 20 years, Alexandrena worked at Diamond Crystal in Wilmington where she made many friendships that lasted throughout her life-time.

Alexandrena will be fondly remembered for her love of animals and she looked forward to taking care of her children’s pets as well as her own.

Alexandrena was quite a wonderful lady; she loved her family and friends will all her heart and she will be greatly missed by all.

Alexandrena was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore Mitrano, devoted mother of Linda Mitrano & her husband Norman Guertin of Leominster, MA, Giro Mitrano & his wife Debra of Billerica, MA, Salvatore Mitrano & his wife Kathy of Concord, NH, Richard Mitrano & his wife Cindy of Andover, MA, Michael Mitrano of Wilmington, MA, and James Mitrano & his wife Cheryl Wizda of Midland, MI. Loving “Grandma” of the late Giro, Jr., Tammy, Terry, Cara, Casey, Lisa, Toni, Paul, Denise, and Lori, great-grandchildren Tanisha, Devin, Desirae, Tiffany, Dana, Ava, Michael, Amber, Alex, Danielle, Mikayla, great-great grandchildren Ana & Aurora, cherished daughter of the late Erasmo “Raymond” and Annie (DeFraia) DiCecca, dear sister of Cosmo DiCecca & his wife Eleanor, Gloria Gerra & her husband Lee, Josephine Russo & her husband Andy, all of Arlington, the late Christopher DiCecca, John DiCecca, Betty Polumbo and Mary DiCecca. Alexandrena is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Thursday, May 18th at 9:00 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours for Mrs. Mitrano will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 17th from 3:00-7:00 p.m.
