Alice M. (Crowley) Rochford

Alice M. (Crowley) Rochford, age 84, of Wilmington and formerly of Dorchester, died peacefully on January 30, 2013, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington.

Alice was born in Dorchester, MA on March 19, 1928, she was the dear daughter of the late Joseph F. and Mary (Fisher) Crowley.  Alice was raised and educated in Dorchester before moving to Charlestown where she raised her children.

Prior to retiring, Alice was a waitress for many years and in her spare time she was always volunteering for good causes and helping others.

Alice moved with her daughter and family to Wilmington 23 years ago and she quickly became very active in the community.  Alice was very involved in the Wilmington Senior Center for over 20 years, she was part of the meals on wheels program, she loved to play a good game of cards, and socialize with her many friends at the Senior Center.

On Tuesday’s she could be found at the Knights of Columbus Hall helping out at A.I.M.; Alice was an active volunteer and she loved helping others, her kindness and caring ways always attracted people to Alice.

Alice was an avid gardener with a green thumb, she had beautiful gardens and roses were always her favorite flowers.  Alice also had a soft spot for animals and she just loved being around them.

Alice will be fondly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and true friend.  She always found the time to help others and always made them feel special.  Alice was truly a wonderful lady and will be greatly missed.

Alice was the beloved wife of the late Charles F. Rochford, devoted mother of Ellen “Dede” (Cosgrove) Sullivan and her husband Stephen of Wilmington and the late Richard Cosgrove, loving grandmother of Colleen McCauley-Coughlan of Lancaster, MA, Amanda Rose Cosgrove of East Boston, mother in law of Rose Cosgrove of East Boston, and great-grandchildren Jacob Sinkus and Erin Coughlan both of Lancaster, MA, dear , sister of Irene Manning and her husband Jim of Rockland, Josephine Spencer of Dorchester, the late Jack Crowley and Justine “Chris” Richards.  Alice is also survived by her dear friend Bob Simmler as well as many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, February 2nd at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m.  Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.  In lieu of flowers donations in Alice’s memory may be made to the American Stroke Association, 185 Franklin St., Boston, MA 02110.

    We’re sitting here chatting about your Mom. Her pure white hair, her happy smile and joyous greeting we always got when we came to visit. We see her leaning on the porch rail you and Steve built for her. Picture of contentment. I hope you will always remember how happy she was with the life you helped provide for her in last twenty plus years. She was in a wonderful place then and she is in a wonderful place now.
