Alyce E. Elworthy

April 25th, 2013

Alyce E. (Reid) Elworthy, age 88, of Wilmington, died peacefully on April 24, 2013, at the Meadow View Rehabilitation Center in North Reading.

Alyce was born on November 24, 1924, in Boston, MA, she was the cherished daughter of the late Felix and Alice (Kennedy) Reid.  Alyce was raised and educated in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School.

Alyce married Robert J. Elworthy in the Mission Church in Boston in 1947; the couple lived in Boston for several years before moving to Wilmington in 1954 where they raised three sons Robert, Richard, and Stephen.  Family was first and foremost in Alyce’s life, she loved being a wife and mother always taking care of “her boys”.   Alyce loved holidays, celebrations, vacations, and just spending time with her family.  When Alyce’s grandchildren were born she took on a new role as “Nana” and she cherished every moment spent with Brian, Craig, and Kelly, they were the light of her life.

Prior to retiring, Alyce worked as a type photo technician at Compugraphic in Wilmington for many years where she was a dedicated and hardworking employee.  Alyce had a great personality and made many friends throughout the company.

In her spare time, Alyce enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, dancing, and traveling with her family and friends.

Alyce was also very active at the Wilmington Senior Center, where she had lots of friends and enjoyed partaking in their many activities and trips.

Alyce will be fondly remembered as kind, caring, devoted to her family and friends, and most of all fiercely independent; Alyce will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Alyce was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Elworthy, devoted mother of Robert R. Elworthy and his wife Tawnya, Richard J. Elworthy and his wife Bonnie all of North Reading, and Stephen A. Elworthy and his wife Denise of Merrimacport, MA, loving Nana of Brian Elworthy and his wife Alison, Craig Elworthy and his wife Kristen, Kelly Elworthy, and great-granddaughter Sienna Elworthy, dear sister of Charles Reid of Revere, James Reid of California, and the late William Reid.  Alyce is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

At Alyce’s request her Funeral Services will be private.  Donations in Alyce’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project,  PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or an organization of your choice. To the family of Alyce-

Please accept our deepest sympathies at the loss of Alyce. I will always remember her at the senior fairs and always had a nice thing to say about my mom and always had time to say hi to our kids.
