Andrew T. Pawlak

Andrew T. Pawlak, age 70, of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on June 23, 2013. Andrew was born in Warsaw, Poland on August 13, 1942 and was the only child of the late Tadeusz Pawlak and Genowefa Sniezko.

As a young child living in Poland, Andrew experienced the difficult consequences of WWII. He lost his father in the war, but with the strong will of his mother and grandmother; Andrew was brought to the United States at the age of eight. They lived in Newton for a short period and then moved to Boston. Andrew remained in Boston until he was a teenager and then settled in Wilmington for over fifty years.

Andrew graduated from Boston College High School and furthered his education at Northeastern University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He also attended Tufts College in Medford and received his Master’s in Economics.

Andrew was an Economics professor for Salem State University for over thirty-five years. He was well respected by the faculty and students. Andrew retired a few years ago, but was able to keep touch with his co-workers over the years.

Andrew loved to ride his bike. He could be seen around town riding with his beloved dog “Kenny” hurrying along next to him. Andrew made daily visits to Starbucks and the Wilmington library. He loved to read and could be seen donating books and movies to different libraries in the area. Aside from reading, Andrew loved to watch all types of Boston sports, especially tennis, which he loved to play in his younger years.

Andrew will be remembered as a genuine person. He was devoted to his grandchildren and went out of his way to help his daughters. Whether it was a ride or lunch, the girls could always count on Dad to be there for them. Andrew was a special part of their lives and he will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Andrew was the beloved father Andrea Rayworth and her fiancé Jamie Ammendolia of Kennebunkport, ME; Sonia Pawlak and her husband Robert Anderson of Seattle, WA; Laura Tetreault and her husband Jacob of Lebanon, ME; loving “Fada” of Douglas Rayworth, Jesse Rayworth, Elijah Tetreault, Sophia Tetreault and Lars Pawlak. Andrew was predeceased by his parents, Tadeusz Pawlak and Genowefa Sniezko, his step-father, Stefan Sniezko and his grandmother, Wladyslawa Cielgska. He is also survived by his former wife and good friend, Betsey Clark.

Family and friends will gather in the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Thursday, June 27, 2013 for Visitation from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow at the Wildwood Cemetery. Memorial donations in Andrew’s name may be made to the Friends of the Wilmington Public Library, Attn: Friends, 175 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA 01887.
