Anthony J. Micalizzi

November 11th, 2021

Anthony J. Micalizzi, Jr., age 85, fondly known as “Tony” to his family and friends and a former long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2021.

Tony was born in Chelsea, MA, on June 4, 1936; he was the beloved son of the late Anthony Sr. and Antonia (Oliveri) Micalizzi. Tony was raised in a large and loving Italian family in Chelsea; at the age of 10 his family moved “up Country” to Wilmington, MA and settled on Marjorie Road. Tony attended Wilmington Schools, played sports, hung out with his many friends, drove a cool car a Black 1960 Chevy Impala convertible, and fell in love with a beautiful girl named JoAnn D’Alelio. Tony and JoAnn married in 1961 and raised three wonderful children; Michael, Mark and Michelle; they were his pride and joy.

Tony was a hard worker throughout his life; in his early years he worked construction in several capacities and was known to be as “strong as a bull”. He later took a position as a driver for the State Commissioner and then worked for the Mass Rehabilitation. Tony retired in 2001 following many years of dedicated service to the State.

In his spare time, Tony enjoyed driving, playing the Lottery “just to try his luck”, eating a good meal and spending time with his family. You could often find him at a family members home helping out in the yard. He was a very devoted and loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to many.

Tony will be fondly remembered for the kindness he showed towards others, his unconditional love and devotion and his huge heart. He was gentle and sweet towards everyone and will forever be in the hearts of those who loved him.

Tony was the devoted father of Michael Micalizzi and his wife Dawne Marie of Laconia, NH, formerly of Wilmington, MA, Mark Micalizzi, and Michelle Hooper and her husband George all of Wilmington. He was the loving “Nonno” of Michael and Ashley Micalizzi and Julianne and George Hooper. Tony was the dear brother of Guy Micalizzi and his wife Jan of Rockport, Joseph Micalizzi and his wife Jean of Hookset, NH, Jacqueline Sapp and her husband Michael of Dracut and the late Marie McClanahan and her late husband Roy. Tony was a special Uncle to his many nieces, nephews and their families.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Tuesday, November 16th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main Street (Rte. 38), Wilmington, MA, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, November 15th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Caring Canines visiting therapy dogs
