Barbara was born on April 24, 1925 in Medway, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Percy and Nellie (Durfee) Schofield. Barbara grew up in Medway and graduated from Medway High School.
Following graduation, Barbara trained under the Army Cadet Nurse Corps. during WWII, where she earned her certification as a Registered Nurse. Barbara worked in several hospitals during her career as a nurse, including hospitals in Walpole, Cape Cod and Miami.
Barbara met her husband Robert E. Welch and the couple married on October 5, 1957. With the help of Barbara’s father, Percy; Barbara and Bob built their home in Wilmington on Hamlin Lane in 1960. They settled in Wilmington and raised their three children, Pamela, Stephen and Carol.
Barbara and Bob loved to travel; they visited all fifty states and most of Canada and Mexico, after retiring they traveled in a mobile home. Barbara and Bob enjoyed all of the scenic views and loved to share their stories with their family when returning home.
Barbara was very devoted to her church, the First Baptist Church in Wilmington. She volunteered her time for many church functions and served as a leader with the Pioneer Girls. She also opened her home to the ladies of the church for weekly Bible studies for more than forty years.
Barbara will be remembered for her love of family gatherings, holidays and her unconditional love for her grandchildren. Barbara was a generous woman who enjoyed helping others.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Robert E. Welch, devoted mother of Pamela Cote & her husband Paul of Wilmington, Stephen Welch & his wife Mary of Billerica and Carol Accettullo & her husband Marc of Littleton, loving “Gramma” of Mary Cote, Thomas Welch, Katie Welch and Marisa Accettullo, cherished daughter of the late Percy and Nellie (Durfee) Schofield, dear sister of Roberta Burgess & her husband John of Raymond, NH and the late Cathy & Ron Borden.
Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on February 10th from 11:00-1:00 p.m. Immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Memorial donations in Barbara’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
