Barbara L. (Meikle) Stratton

September 18th, 2013

Barbara L. (Meikle) Stratton, age 86, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on September 18, 2013. Barbara was born on December 16, 1926 in Hamden, CT. She attended the University of Connecticut before moving to Chicago, IL where she worked as a buyer for Plax Corporation.

She met her husband Robert in 1953 and they were engaged by the end of the year and married in June of 1954 in Connecticut.  They were married for 58 years.

In 1963 they moved to Michigan, where Barbara was a Market Researcher, and she remained in that occupation following their move to Wilmington, MA in 1971. She later became a representative for Creative Memories and gave workshops and classes on photo album design. Barbara also started and ran several creative endeavors, including production of artistic hand-painted bells and hand-knitted scarves. Following her retirement, Barbara authored a collection of poetry titled “A Taste of Honey”, and served as an editor for Big Table Publishing Company and Boston Literary Magazine.

Barbara was known for her sense of humor and her love of dogs. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sitting by the pool in the hot sun drinking coffee, and doing jigsaw puzzles on line.

Her husband Robert passed away in March of 2013. Barbara leaves behind her loving close family: son James Stratton and his wife Roberta of Chelmsford and their son Robert, son Richard Stratton and his wife Cindi of Hudson, NH and their children Christopher and Courtney, and daughter Robin Stratton of Newton.

Visiting hours will be Friday, September 20th  from 5 – 7 pm at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave (Route 62) Wilmington. Funeral services will be held privately.
