Barbara (Manuel) Clifford

Barbara L. (Manuel) Clifford, age 84, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2016, at the Blair House in Tewksbury.

Barbara was born in Boston, MA on October 13, 1932; she was the cherished daughter of the late James and Lorraine (Fraser) Manuel. Barbara was raised and educated in Wilmington and graduated Wilmington High School with the Class of 1950.

Barbara married the boy next door Eugene Clifford in 1951; the couple shared many great memories together throughout the years. Barbara and Gene lived in Wilmington where they raised their 14 children. Barbara was fondly known as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend to many.

Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Eugene L. Clifford, devoted mother of Daniel Clifford of Wilmington, James Clifford, Judith Topping & husband Ronald Topping Sr. and Dorothy Botsch all of Tewksbury, Theresa Miller & husband John Miller Sr. of Lawrence, Joseph Clifford & Charlene, Lawrence Clifford and William Clifford all of Billerica, Barbara Clifford of Westford, the late Michael, Mary Ann, Mark, John, and Gene Clifford. Loving “Nana” of 26 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, dear sister of Janet Manuel of Wilmington, Patricia (Manuel) Belinski & husband Charles of Tewksbury, Thomas Manuel & wife Jane Kroll Manuel of Summerville, SC, and the late James R. Manuel. Barbara is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Wednesday, January 4th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the family lot at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 3rd from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
