Barbara N. Dyer-Cullen

April 23rd, 2014

Barbara N. Dyer-Cullen, “Mama Midget”, age 67, of Reading, died peacefully, Easter morning to rise with the Lord, surrounded by her family and friends at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Barbara was born and raised in South Boston and Weymouth.  Over the years she lived in several communities including Wilmington.

For many years Barbara worked as a bus driver for Commonwealth Coach in Medford and when the bus company moved to Woburn and became Safety Transportation, Barbara stayed on as a dispatcher and then moved up to supervisor.   Barbara loved her job, she drove the bus for children as well as adults with medical issues and handicaps; Barbara was very compassionate and caring, she always had a way with people and they formed a strong bond with each other.

Barbara was an avid follower of NASCAR, Dale Earnhardt, and race cars; she was so “into” car racing.  Barbara was part of the team that built the midget race car “00” and was a fan of its driver Brian Cleveland.  Barbara also worked with Star Speedway as part of the first response recovery team.

In her spare time, Barbara loved to go to bingo and spent time with her family and friends, especially the time spent with her grandchildren whom she adored.  Barbara enjoyed camping at her camp in Rochester, NH, where she could relax, leave her troubles behind, and always feel “at home”.

Barbara was a lovely lady who would do anything for anyone and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Barbara was the beloved better half of more than 30 years of Cris Cullen, devoted mother of Crystal Lee Matthews of Reading, Lissamarie White of Lowell, and Kelly A. Dyer of Woburn, loving grandmother of the late Lee Matthews, Katlin MacPherson, Demetrios Galiatsatos, Amanda Poirier, Bobby Poirier, and Charles Joseph Dyer, loving great-grandmother of Chance MacPherson.  Barbara is also survived by two sisters Donna Brady and Kathy MacPherson.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, for Visitation on Saturday, April 26th from  1:00-4:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 4:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA  01701.

I’m sorry for your loss Kelly! I remember your mom very well and knew how very much she loved you, CJ your sister and Chris. I enjoyed our times together and will always remember our trip at the camp site in NH. I still have pics of my kids from there. I know how much your mom meant to you. My thoughts and prayers are with you, CJ and the rest of your family.
