James Barbero, age 93, of Wilmington, formerly of East Boston and Peabody, died Sunday, September 16, 2007, at home, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy illness.

James was born on June 26, 1914, in East Boston, MA; he was the son of John and Catherine (Ricciardelli) Barbero. James grew up in East Boston and was educated there. He owned and operated Siraco’s Market in East Boston until he retired. James loved “his” Red Sox and was honored to be an usher and ticket taker at Fenway Park for over 25 years.

He and his wife Julia lived in Peabody from 1985 until her passing in 1997, when he moved to Wilmington with his daughter and resided there until his death. In Wilmington, James was an active member of St. Dorothy’s Church and the Wilmington Senior Citizens Center. In his spare time, he loved to travel, go to Foxwoods Casino, play slot machines, and enjoyed watching Boston sports whether it was his beloved Red Sox or the New England Patriots.

James was the beloved husband of the late Julia (Siraco) Barbero, devoted father of Linda Costantino & her husband Mark of Wilmington, and James J. Barbero & his wife Gayle of Peabody, loving grandfather of Jared, Adam, Lauren, and Meagan, dear brother of John Barbero and Gilda Albanese both of East Boston, and the late Rose Ricciardelli and Eleanor Barbero.

His funeral was held from the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Wednesday, September 19th at 9:00 a.m. followed by an Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s Church, and was celebrated by Fr. Kevin Horrigan. Interment took place in the family lot at Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody. Memorial donations in James’s name may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01903 or St. Dorothy’s Church, 11 Harnden St., Wilmington, MA 01887.
