Barlow, Sandra

Sandra L. (Reny) Barlow, age 70, of Wilmington, died unexpectedly, February 22, 2011, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.

Born in Lawrence, MA, on June 12, 1940, Sandra was the cherished daughter of the late Edward and Margery (Buker) Reny. After moving to Medford, she attended Dame Elementary School. She graduated from Medford High School in 1958 having been selected as a member of the National Honor Society and the Latin Honor Society. Following high school, Sandra worked for several years as an EKG technician at the Lahey Clinic and Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and became a member of the First Baptist Church in Medford.

Sandy married Edwin C. Barlow in January of 1962 and then the couple purchased their first and only home two years later in Wilmington. Sandy and Ed raised three wonderful sons during their 49 years of marriage. Dedicated to her family, Sandy loved being a mother and grandmother. The family attended the Wilmington First Baptist Church for several years and made many friends.

Sandy joined the League of Women Voters when she first arrived in Wilmington. A current member of the Friends of Wilmington Memorial Library, she loved to read and donated numerous books to the Wilmington Book Store to be shared by others. Sandy will be remembered for her compassion to others, volunteering more than 10,000 hours over a period of twenty years in the “blue room”, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center at the New England Memorial Hospital. Sandy’s selflessness, kindness, and thoughtfulness towards others in need was remarkable. Sandy received many commendations for her faithful and kind service to others.

Sandy was the beloved wife of Edwin C. Barlow, Sr., devoted mother of Edwin C. Barlow, Jr. & his wife Tamara of Windsor, Connecticut, Stephen J. Barlow & his wife Myong Cha of Hawaii, and Glen S. Barlow & his wife Kimberly of Salem, MA, loving grandmother of Amanda, Joshua, Andrew, Kara, Daniel, and Kenny, and the dear sister of Edward Reny & his wife Irene of Saugus, MA .

Sandra’s Funeral Service was held on Monday, February 28th in Nichols Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m.. Interment followed in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Memorial donations in Sandra’s name may be made to the M.S.P.C.A., Development Office, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130 or to the National Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts, 85 Astor Ave., Norwood, MA 02026.
