Bechard, Donna

February 15th, 2011

Donna P. (Harvey) Bechard, age 54, of Wilmington, died Sunday, February 13, 2011, at her family home, surrounded by her loved ones following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Lowell, MA, on July 19, 1956, Donna was the cherished daughter of Beverly L. (Howe) Harvey and the late John R. Harvey of Wilmington. Donna grew up in Wilmington and was a graduate of Wilmington High School Class of 1974.

In the late 1980’s, Donna moved to Indiana and Michigan, but several years ago she returned to her roots in Wilmington and to be closer to her family and friends.

Donna was an “outdoorsy” type of person, anything that involved being out in the sunshine, she was there. She loved camping, going to the beach and soaking in the sun, skiing and having fun in the snow, riding on a motorcycle with the sun on her face and the wind at her back, and for anyone who knew Donna, they knew that gardening was her passion.

Donna worked at the North East Nurseries in Peabody until her illness forced her to retire. She was a talented gardener and designer, she loved all kinds of flowers, plants, and bushes, Donna even drew a garden to be erected at her family homestead arranging all the plants and flowers right down to the color, size, and placements. Unfortunately, Donna was not able to create her garden but her family plans to do just that and follow her directions explicitly they hope to dedicate “Donna’s Garden” this summer.

Donna was also an avid reader and enjoyed many walks to the Library to read and socialize.

She loved the holidays, especially the Fourth of July and all its festivities including outdoor barbque, visiting with family and friends, and of course the fireworks.

Donna will be remembered for her smile that could light up a room and for her signature red lipstick.

She was approachable, friendly, and very affectionate, Donna had a caring nature and was always helping others, people were drawn to Donna and she was well loved by her family, friends, and all who had the chance to know her.

Donna was also a fighter she handled her illness head on with courage, dignity, a winning attitude, and the support of her family who cared for her and will miss her terribly, she was very grateful to all of them.

Donna was the devoted mother of Darja Edwardson of Wilmington, MA and Michigan, Rachel Bechard of Detroit, MI, and Joseph Bechard of Wilmington, MA, loving grandmother of Corah Liane Bergman and the late Sophia Corrin Bergman, cherished sister of Liane Harvey of Lowell, Diane Maxwell of West Warren, MA, Russell Harvey of Miami, and Keila Bartlett of Wilmington, beloved partner of Gene Murphy of Woburn, Donna is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 16th from 4-8 p.m. at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington. Her Funeral Home service will take place on Thursday, February 17th at 11:00 a.m.
