Bielecki, Michael “Bob”

bieleckimichaelMichael J. “Bob” Bielecki, age 87, of Wilmington, formerly of So. Boston and Dorchester, died Saturday, August 22, 2009, at the Meadowview Care & Rehabilitation Center in North Reading following a lengthy illness.

Born on September 9, 1921, in Boston, MA, Michael was the dear son of the late Joseph and Stephanie (Zawecki) Bielecki. Michael grew up in South Boston for the first few years of his life and then his family moved to Dorchester, where he was educated and was a graduate of Dorchester High School. Michael was inducted into the United States Army on October 9, 1942, he served all over Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, Michael received many medals and commendations, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his brave service, he was honorably discharged on December 3, 1945.

Michael married Rosemary Shannon on July 4, 1946, and the couple moved to Wilmington. He became actively involved in the community, serving on the Town Democratic Committee, Chairman of PAC #58 Boy Scouts, he taught special needs CCD at St. Dorothy’s Church, was a former member of St. Dorothy’s Parish Council, and Past President of the CCD Fraternity of St. Dorothy’s Church. Prior to retirement, Michael was an Office Manager for the Ultramar Petroleum Company in Neponset and Chelsea for many years.

He will be fondly remembered by family and friends as an avid gardener, a “true” Patriots fan since day 1, a people person who was always interested in others, a gentle giant, and a devoted family man, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Rosemary C. (Shannon) Bielecki, he was the devoted father of Paul M. Bielecki & his wife Phyllis of Danville, NH and James K. Bielecki of Wilmington, loving grandfather of Kristine, Bryan, Kimberly, Stephanie, Christopher, and great-grandchildren Kathryn, Nicole, Devon, and Emily, dear brother of the late Victoria, Stephen, Alex, William, Wanda Rodgers, Josephine, Charles, Anna, Pauline, John, Edmund, and Carolyn Ewing, brother-in-law of Gertrude O’Rourke of Hingham and Margaret Bielecki of Neponset, Michael is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family & Friends will gather in the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Wednesday, August 26th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours Tuesday, August 25th from 4-8 p.m.

Memorial donations in Michael’s name may be made to St. Dorothy’s Church, 11 Harnden St., Wilmington, MA 01887 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
