William F. Burns, Sr., age 74, of Wilmington, formerly of Cambridge and Malden, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at Woodbriar of Wilmington.

Born on November 28, 1934, in Cambridge, MA, William was the dear son of the late William F. & Ann (Sexton) Burns. William grew up in Cambridge and was educated there. He also lived in Malden for many years, where he raised his family and in his early years was the proprietor of the Maplewood Diner in the Maplewood Section of Malden.

He moved to Wilmington over 13 years ago. William was employed as a truck driver for the Clark & Reed Moving Company in Burlington for many years before he moved up to their sales division, he retired in the late 1980’s. In his spare time, William loved to play cards, watch sports, enjoyed horse racing, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

William was the beloved father of William F. Burns, Jr. and Brigette Guiffre both of Tewksbury, Helena “Honey” Fitzgerald & her husband John of Wilmington, and Paul Burns of Malden, loving grandfather of Johnny and Shannon Fitzgerald, Brittany Burns, Tara, Jaymie, and Kayla Guiffre, William is also survived by his former wife and dear friend Anne “Chickie” Burns of Tewksbury.

His Funeral Service will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Thursday , October 1st at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday, September 30th from 4-8 p.m.

Memorial donations in William’s name may be made to the William F. Burns, Sr. Memorial Fund, c/o Danversbank, 247 Main St., Wilmington, MA 01887.
