Gilbert F. Cahill, age 73, of Wilmington and Marco Island, FL, formerly of Worcester, passed away at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington on May 7, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Worcester on April 22, 1936, Gil was the dear son of Gilbert S. & Bridget A. (Doyle) Cahill. Gil grew up in Worcester and was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School Class of 1954. Gil earned an Associates Degree in Engineering from Worcester Junior College. He furthered his education at Central New England College of Technology graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Gil went on to earn a Masters Degree in Industrial Management from W.P.I. Gil worked for Massachusetts Electric Systems for over 30 years retiring as a Manager.
In his spare time Gil enjoyed going to Wells Beach in Maine and Marco Island, Florida. He also volunteered his time building houses in Massachusetts, Maine, and Florida for Habitat for Humanity. Gil will be remembered by family and friends as a helpful and friendly individual with great smile and a big heart who was always putting others before himself, and for his unwavering devotion to his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Tuesday, May 12th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas of Villanova Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Visiting hours Monday, May 11th from 4-8 p.m.
Memorial donations in Gilbert’s name may be made to St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA 01887.

I was saddened to hear of Gil’s passing. He always seemed “larger than life” to me and I have many fond memories of Gil and your family at Wells Beach, Maine. He was a good man and I am fortunate to have had the pleasure of knowing such a fun loving guy! My heart goes out to you all.
