Carlos Manuel “Charlie” Amaral

Carlos Manuel “Charlie” Amaral, age 63, of Wilmington, passed away on August 10, 2014 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.

Carlos was born on October 19, 1950 in Pico, Azores; he was the cherished son of the late Joaquim and Maria D. (Cardoso) Amaral. Carlos was raised in the Azores and moved to the United States when he was 23 years old.

Carlos married Maria D. Silva on August 12, 1973 and together they shared 41 years of marriage. The couple lived in Somerville before moving to Wilmington. Carlos and Maria had one daughter, Elizabeth, who was their pride and joy.

Carlos worked for John Mantia & Sons in Boston on the fish pier for many years. He loved his job and made many friends, whom he remained close to.

Carlos loved to travel; especially taking cruises with his family. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Woburn Portugese Club and the Lowell Reds. Carlos was a fun-loving guy who socialized with everyone.

Carlos will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a caring and affectionate with those close to him and he will be greatly missed.

Carlos was the beloved husband of Maria D. (Silva) Amaral, devoted father of Elizabeth Costa and her husband John of Wilmington, loving “VoVo” of Makayla Costa, cherished son of the late Joaquim and Maria D. (Cardoso) Amaral, dear brother of Joao Amaral & his wife Leanor of Pico, Azores and Maria A. Silva & her husband Jose of Medford, uncle of Fernando and Lorraine Silva, Kevin and Jennifer Silva and Stephanie Amaral.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Thursday, August 14th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in the St. Dorothy’s Church, Main Street (Rte. 38), Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 13th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Carlos’ name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
