Carlson, Roy

August 9th, 2009

carlson-roy2Roy H. Carlson, Jr., age 72, of Wilmington, died August 9, 2009, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Born in Malden, MA, on February 2, 1937, Roy was the son of the late Roy H., Sr. & Ida (Jensen) Carlson. Roy grew up in Malden and was a graduate of Malden Tech. High School. Roy married Shirley A. Lussier and they celebrated over 53 years of marriage. Roy and Shirley lived in Everett and Malden prior to moving to Wilmington 38 years ago. Prior to retirement, Roy worked for the Market Forge Company in Everett and Wilmington for over 20 years. He worked in the stainless steel division where they built supplies and machinery for hospitals. Roy most recently retired from the Town of Wilmington where he was a custodian at the Shawsheen Elementary School for many years.

Roy will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a kind person, always helping someone out, an avid Red Sox fan, he enjoyed fishing, going to Mohegan Sun, puttering around fixing things, the fact that he had to have “two” of everything just in case one broke, and most notably Roy was a family man who attended his sons sporting events, loved to travel with his wife and family, and adored his grandchildren.

Roy was the beloved husband of Shirley A. (Lussier) Carlson, devoted father of David R. Carlson & his wife Barbara of Mattapoisett and Michael J. Carlson & his wife Cherish of Tewksbury, loving “Grampa” of Michaela & Jake Carlson, dear brother of the late Elaine Robbins and Marilyn Sbraccia, brother-in-law of George Robbins of Melrose, and he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family & Friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62) Wilmington, on Thursday, August 13th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St., Wilmington, at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
