Charles W. Doucette, age 76, of Wilmington, formerly of Woburn, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2012after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Woburn on December 20, 1935, Charles was the cherished son of Wilfred and Lucy (Greco) Doucette. He grew up in Woburn and was a graduate of Woburn High School.

His lifelong interest in automobiles and “working with his hands” led him to establish Charlie’s Auto Body. For many years, Charlie and his wife Ruth operated the family business on Main Street in Wilmington and recently celebrated fifty years in business. He will be remembered fondly as a kind and fair businessman and friend who inspired many young people to work hard, pursue a passion and never give up. Charlie was admired for his creativity and ability to think outside the box. He truly touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Charlie enjoyed watching the Red Sox and spending time on Cape Cod.He was also a passionate golfer who “had an early tee time with the angels” on Sunday morning, July 8th. Charlie was a longtime member of the Wilmington Rotary Club. He was a past president of the club and enjoyed the weekly softball games for many years.

Charlie was the beloved husband of 57 years to Ruth (McKeon) Doucette, devoted father of Susan Camillieri and her husband Charles of Wilmington, MA, Karen Doucette of Newton, MA, Thomas Doucette and his wife Kelly of Wilmington, MA and Lisa Doucette-Bond and her husband James of Wilmington, MA. He was the loving Grampy of Lauren and Andrew Camillieri and Kaileigh and Michelle Doucette.He was the brother of John, of FL, the late Ronald, of NH and Patricia of NH.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc. 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Friday, July 13th at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral mass in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., at 10:00 AM. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 12th from 4-8 PM. Memorial donations in Charlie’s name may be made to “Prostate Cancer Research at DFCI”, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA¬† 02215.On behalf of the family, we extend a special thanks to Dr. Maryellen Taplin of Dana Farber Cancer Institute for her kindness and compassion in caring for Charlie.

    Dad, You have been my best pal forever. I love you with all my heart. I came to see you Sunday morning, but you weren’t around. I guess you took that 7:27 AM tee time with the angels. I hope you are free and peaceful now. You will always be with me.
