Charlotte L. Jones

Charlotte L. (Tyler) Jones, age 91, of Wilmington, died peacefully on March 12, 2013, at the Winchester Hospital.

Charlotte was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT, she was the cherished daughter of the late Anna Lillian Tyler.

Charlotte met “the love of her life” Herbert Jones while working at Woolworth’s Department Store in Bridgeport, CT, it was love at first sight and the couple soon married before Herbert went off to serve the country.

When Herbert was discharged he returned home to Charlotte and the couple lived in Connecticut with their daughter Barbara before moving to Wilmington in 1956 after son Leo was born.

Prior to retiring, Charlotte worked in the Accounting Department for AVCO/Textron Company in Wilmington for many years.  Charlotte was a dedicated and dependable employee and made many life-long friendships with her co-workers.

Charlotte was an avid collector, being born on “Flag Day” made her a collector of anything “Americana” and red, white, and blue were some of her favorite colors.  Charlotte’s favorite holiday was Christmas and she collected all kinds of “Santa’s”, she loved her many Christmas decorations and displayed them throughout the year; Christmas at Charlotte’s was all year long.

Charlotte was a talented craftsman, she built many miniature doll houses that were decorated for certain occasions.  Charlotte would often give them as gifts to her family and friends; you knew you were special if you received one of her creations.

Charlotte will be remembered for being friendly, loyal, and for her fiery personality.  She was very devoted to her family and her friends.  Charlotte was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and a true friend.  She enjoyed her many outings with her loved one’s whether it was a special occasion, out to lunch, or on her many shopping sprees, she always made everything an adventure and she will be greatly missed.

Charlotte was the beloved wife of the late Herbert Jones, devoted mother of the late Barbara (Jones) McLaughlin and Leo Jones, loving “Grandma” of Michael McLaughlin of Los Angeles, CA, Beth LeBlanc and her husband Peter of Revere, and the late Robert McLaughlin, “Great-Grandma” of Peter, Joseph, and Collin LeBlanc, Charlotte is also survived by many good friends.

Family and Friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Monday, March 18th from 10-11:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 12:00 noon.  Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.  Memorial donations in Charlotte’s name may be made to the American Diabetes Association 1701 North Beauregard Street Alexandria, VA 22311.

    Charlotte was a wonderful friend to me, and such a strong woman! She inspired me and earned my total respect the moment I met her 37 years ago. Even though we only kept in touch sporadically over the years, when we talked, it was as if no time had passed, and we remembered such good times we had. I will miss you deeply, Mrs. Jones, rest in peace.
