Chester C. “Chet” Howe

Chester C. Howe Jr. “Chet”, 76, of Andover passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, on Thursday August 30th after a lengthy illness. Chet was the husband of Carol A. Howe and had been married for 43 years.

Born in Winchester and raised on Silver Lake in Wilmington, Chet was the oldest of seven children of Chester Sr and Martha (Field) Howe. After graduating from Wilmington High School in 1960 Chet followed in the footsteps of his father and pursued a career in the dairy industry beginning at Whiting’s Milk in Charlestown, Ma, followed by Johanna Farms in Flemington, NJ. In 1983 a job at HP Hood brought Chet and his family back to Massachusetts and the town of Andover. Chet’s life was built around family. He was always looking forward to the next family party, when he wasn’t working on his boat he was looking for people to take fishing, and he always had a smile and warm embrace ready for his grandchildren & great grandchildren.

In retirement Chet enjoyed spending his days with his family, working in the yard with his dogs, and loved his “do it himself” projects. He enjoyed traveling with Carol and you could often find him planning trips based around the locations of the best lobster rolls or maple syrup.
Chet was a Lifetime Member of the Lawrence Rod & Gun Club. He was President for 8 years and on the Board of Directors for 10+. He leaves many great friendships and countless great memories.

Chet was a member of the St. Matthew’s Lodge Masons in Andover.

Chet was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Roy) Howe, devoted father of Lynda Tennis & her husband Dale of Allenstown, NH, Scott Howe & his partner Julie Thibaudeau of Merrimack, NH, Ron Howe & his wife Mary Jo of New Hampton, NH and Jeffrey Howe & his wife Sara of Milford, loving “Grampa” of Chad & his wife Laura, Jonathan & his fiancé Heather, Stephanie & her husband Sean, Brianna, Kayla, Sarah & her fiancé George, Alison, Billy, Anna and Great-Grandchildren Caden, Connor, Rowan & Greyson, cherished son of the late Chester C. and Martha L. (Field) Howe, dear brother of Robert A. Howe & his wife Barbara Ann of Wilmington, Nancy Wheeler of Nashua, NH, Donald W. Howe & his wife Susan of Wolfeboro, NH, Richard T. Howe & his wife Donna of Billerica, Lawrence F. Howe and Sandra McFeeters & her husband Michael all of Wilmington. Chet is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Wednesday, September 5th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 4th from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

    Uncle Chet,

    You will be missed, Thank you for always taking the time to spend with my family when we visited from Florida. Thanks for being a great Uncle and showing me the places you worked while I was growing up. I learned that a sense of humor can get you through a lot of things. You always smiled even when you were in so much pain at the family get together this year.

    The best brother a sister could have. I’LL always remember the time you took to explain why Demoulas cut my hours and a month later increased them. I wish you could have become a lawyer, you would have made a very good one.
