Cole, Richard

Richard G. Cole, age 69, retired business owner, insurance agent and real estate manager, died peacefully at the Masonic Overlook Life Care Community in Charlton, MA on Thursday, November 4, 2010.

He was born November 27, 1940, in Lowell, MA to the late George A. Cole and Helen F (Miller) Cole. Rich (Dick) was raised in Wilmington, MA, playing for the football, baseball and hockey teams; and graduated Wilmington High School in 1959. On June 18, 1961, he was married to M. Jean (Surette) Cole; his childhood sweetheart and remained a Wilmington resident until retiring to Newbury, NH and Travelers Rest Resort in Dade City, FL.

Rich, was a talented and giving man. He was a United Methodist Church Lay speaker & Sunday school teacher. Past Master of Friendship Masonic Lodge, Wilmington, MA, Noble of the Mystic Shrine, Wilmington, MA, Affiliate Past Master King Solomon’s, Elkins NH volunteer at The Fells, Newbury Beautification Committee, Newbury Historical Society, New Hampshire “Let’s Go Fishing”, and Habitat for Humanity in New Hampshire & Florida.

Richard is survived by his Beloved wife Jean, he was the devoted father of Jean Marie (Cole) Labrecque of Wilmington, MA, Richard M. Cole and his wife Christine of Londonderry, NH, Robert W. Cole and his wife Gilda of Connecticut. The cherished Grandfather of Michael and Jessica Labrecque, Steven and Erin Cole, Dustin, Daniel, Kevin, Emily Cole, Lucas and Gabriel Souza; the adored Great-Grandfather “Pa” of Tessa Nevaeh Labrecque Pineau. The loving brother of Edward C. Cole of Somersworth NH and the late Beverly A. Sullivan, Barbara F. Cole, Nancy L. Cole and Linda H. Didion-Adams, Son-in-Law of Theresa (Pagliarulo) Surette and the late Walter Surette, Brother-in-Law of Theresa and Donald Morin of Windham, NH, Nancy Boutwell of Tewksbury, MA, Richard Adams of Billerica and the late Earl Boutwell and David Sullivan as well as many loving nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

Visiting Hours will be held at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave, (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service on Sunday November 7, 2010. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 8, 2010 at the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 87 Church Street, Wilmington, MA

    Jean & Family: It seems like yesterday you and Rich were in my office here in New Hampshire and he was telling me all about the work he was doing for Habitat for Humanity (and trying to recruit me as well) his work on the Newbury Historical Society and also how to rid my yard of moles! His knowledge and enthusiasm seemed limitless. I shall miss him. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
