Daniel “Sully” Sullivan

November 7th, 2020

Daniel F. Sullivan “Sully”, age 80, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2020.

Sully was born on December 19, 1939, in Somerville, MA; he was the dear son of the late Daniel and Marion Sullivan. Sully was raised and educated in Somerville and a graduate of Somerville High School.

In 1958, Sully married his “sweetheart” and best friend, Evelyn Shorey; the couple lived in Somerville before buying their family home in Wilmington in 1970. Sully and Evelyn became parents to six wonderful children; they were his pride and joy. Sully was very devoted to his family; he enjoyed the time they spent together and the fun they had throughout the years. When Sully became a grandfather and then a great-grandfather his world became even better; he loved his family with all his heart.

Sully worked hard to provide for his family; for many years he worked at the General Motors Corporation and was a care taker for the Knights of Columbus in Wilmington for over 30 years.

Sully also had lots of hobbies; he was an avid sports fan who loved cars and car racing. Sully was a member of the “pit crew” for his brother-in-law Paul’s stock car racing crew, he loved to follow NASCAR, the Indy 500 or any other car races. He also enjoyed following his favorite Boston Sports teams; watching countless games throughout the years with his family and friends. Another favorite past time was a “friendly” and “competitive” game of darts at the Knights with his friends; Sully was a natural.

Sully looked forward to his yearly “guys weekend” at Sebago with his long-time buddies; everyone always had a great time. In his spare time, Sully, enjoyed riding his Harley; he loved the open road, seeing new places and meeting new people.

Sully involved himself in the community; he was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Wilmington and was involved in many fundraising activities throughout the years. He was also a long-time member of the Moose Lodge in Somerville.

Sully will be remembered as a “good guy”; he had a great sense of humor, he was friendly and would do anything to help anyone. He was a wonderful family man and a true friend to many; he will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Sully was the beloved husband of Evelyn B. (Shorey) Sullivan, devoted father of Daniel F. Sullivan Jr. of Wilmington, Debby Richard & her late husband Mark of Methuen, David Sullivan & his wife Liz of Wilmington, Donald Sullivan of Mesa, AZ, the late Marty Sullivan and Dennis Sullivan. Loving grandfather of Matthew Von Jess, Daniel Sullivan III, Erin Sullivan, Matt & Kenna Richard, Mike & Nicole Richard, Mark-Daniel Richard, Kelly Sullivan, Kyle Sullivan, Kevin Sullivan, Keith & Rachel Sullivan, Kimberly & Londell Lee, Kathryn Sullivan, Kristen Sullivan, Kameron Sullivan, Kara Sullivan and great grandchildren Noah, Oliver, Phoebe, Aubrey, L.J. and Aria. Cherished son of the late Daniel and Marion (Smith) Sullivan, dear brother of the late Marion Murphy and Catherine McLean, brother-in-law of Bea Bossi and Paul Caputo. Sully is further survived by many nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law and friends.

Family & friends will gather for Visiting Hours on Monday, November 9th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, November 10th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
