Besides his parents, Derek is survived by his beloved siblings Bridget and Domenic Santos both of Wilmington, he was the loving grandson of Judes and Richard Ziemba of Agawam, Kathy and the late Robert Burmeister formerly of Minnesota, Aldina and the late Getulio Santos of Malden. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Derek. My son James, who
Passed away in 2015 at the age of 19 was a good friend of Derek’s. I received many emails and texts from him just checking to make sure I was OK; or telling me how much he missed James. Derek was a sweet and caring young man. Rest In Peace Derek. I know you and James are together jamming on your guitars! Heaven gained yet another sweet angel. God Bless ????

Derek held a special place in our hearts and our family growing up together with my children he was always such a joy and his amazing hugs will always be felt. He was literally the only child that cried on the last day of the school year he enjoyed being with his friends and learning. His heart and smiles were infectious. We loved him and will always hold onto the memories he brought. Our wish is that you hold onto all the brightness he brought this world and it gets you through this horrible time in your lives. Wishing you all peace

  14. Jake Downs says:

My deepest condolences for the loss Of Derek. He was a good kid and I liked him a lot. It’s a shame to lose someone so young. We had just talked a couple weeks before about how unhappy he was in life and felt stuck in a bad situation that he didn’t know how to get out of. I wish I could have been there for him but his bf didn’t seem to let anyone get near him or let him breathe. May he rest in eternal Peace and be remembered for his best qualities. I’m sorry I could not make The services.
