Donat J. Bourassa, Jr.

November 5th, 2019

Donat J. Bourassa, Jr., age 83, of Wilmington, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on November 4, 2019.

Donat was born on December 2, 1935 in Lowell, MA and was a life-long Wilmington resident; he was the cherished son of the late Donat J. and Marie (Beland) Bourassa. When Donat was young he worked at Bob Evans chicken farm.

Donat enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 16, 1955 in Boston, MA. He faithfully served his country during the Korean War for two years before being honorably discharged on February 15, 1957.

After Donat was discharged from the Army, he returned home to his family. He went to work at the Gildard Chevrolet for a short time before taking a position in the Parts & Service department at Wilmington Ford. While working at Wilmington Ford, Donat drove a tow truck in the evening to earn extra cash for his family.

Donat married “his sweetheart” Elizabeth Smith. The couple settled in Wilmington, where they raised their children. Donat was a loving husband and father; his family was everything to him. He loved spending time with his family and coaching the kids in sports, especially Little League.

In his spare time, Donat enjoyed going camping and sitting by the campfire. He loved the snake that lived in his wood stack and often disturbed the snake while reaching under the tarp to get some wood. Donat was known to have a “green thumb” and enjoyed spending time in his garden. He also had a bird feeder outside his kitchen window; he used his bird encyclopedia and binoculars to watch the birds eat. Donat took pride in scaring off the squirrels to protect his garden and birds. In the evening, Donat could be found listening to the police radio, while watching the news on the TV and reading the Lowell Sun at the same time.

Donat will be remembered as a loving husband, father and “Pa”. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Donat was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Smith) Bourassa, devoted father of Stephen Bourassa and Cheryl Mills & her husband Steven all of Wilmington, Alan Bourassa & his wife Alease of Las Vegas, NV and Marianne Richard of Tewksbury.
