Donna M. Lautz

April 24th, 2019

Donna M. Lautz, age 72, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on April 20, 2019 at Windsor Place.

Donna was born on July 17, 1946 in Worcester, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late William J. and Lois M. (Hamilton) Lautz.  Donna lived in Wakefield for a few years before moving to Wilmington with her family in 1955.  She was raised in Wilmington and attended Wilmington Public Schools.

Donna went to Mansfield Beauty Academy in Boston, where she earned her cosmetology certificate in 1963.  Following graduation, Donna went to work for Zayre’s in the Wig Department; a job she thoroughly enjoyed.  She was very creative and had a knack for helping her customers with the right style.

Donna’s father passed away at a very young age.  Donna left her job at Zayre’s to help her mother with her brother and sister at home. She loved to spend time with them and create fun adventures.  Donna took the kids camping in North Conway for entire summers and skiing in the White Mountains during the winter.  With Donna’s help, the neighborhood kids started a singing group called “The Moppets”.  They had so many fun memories of their singing group and were once featured in the Town Crier.

Donna started to take care of other children during the day; she would go to the childrens’ homes to take care of them while their parents worked.  After a short time, Donna decided to open her own home daycare.  Donna did many activities with the kids during the day and even had a swimming pool, where she taught all her daycare kids how to swim.  She took care of many children for over forty years and loved every minute of it.

Donna was very loving, caring and devoted to her family.  She helped her mother in her later years; she took her to her appointments and made sure her mother was very well cared for. Donna was very reliable and could pretty much fix anything that needed repair.

Donna was the dear sister of Karen R. Farrell & her husband Thomas, III of Yorktown Heights, NY, Leanne Cummings & her husband Jeffrey of Sterling, VA, Robert W. Lautz & his wife Suzanne of Jay, Maine, loving aunt of Kaileen Farrell, Nicole Hidalgo & her husband Cameron, Amanda Cummings, Lauren Sennett & her husband John, Randy Lautz & Anne Maheux, Jaclyn Clausen & her husband Alex, great-aunt of Vivian, Aveleen, Wyatt and Violette.  Donna is also survived by many loving cousins, friends, and former daycare kids.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, April 27th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington at 10:00 a.m.  Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, April 26th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Memorial donations in Donna’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Those summers at the Beach Camping Area in North Conway, where the Lautz and Curley family friendships began, are one of the fondest memories of my childhood. We are so fortunate to know the Lautz family and will miss Donna very much. I believe that our parents and siblings who have passed before are just waiting for us around a big campfire in heaven. On behalf of the Curley family, I send our sincere sympathy to the Lautz’s.

    Dear Karen Leanne and Bob

I’m so very sorry to hear of Donna’s passing. Yet I am so happy to have been able to reconnect with her thru facebook. Donna was a huge part of my childhood years with summers spent camped next door to each other at The Beach Camping Area. Over the years I had talked often with Pat and Barb, keeping updated on “Donna-Donna”! She was a wonderful person whom I will remember fondly. I hope Donna Pat and Barb are having a huge reunion in heaven.
    Most sincerely,
    Mimi
