doran-james1James P. Doran, age 73, of Wilmington, formerly of Malden and Charlestown, died Monday, June 2, 2009, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford, surrounded by his family.

Born in Charlestown, MA, on July 4, 1935, he was the son of the late Patrick & Nellie (Nagle) Doran. James grew up in Charlestown, he attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Charlestown High School. James was an avid hockey player in his younger years and a member of the Boston Crusaders Drum Corps. James served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1954 until 1962.

James married Barbara A. O’Donnell on April 20, 1963, and they celebrated 42 years of marriage prior to her passing in September of 2005. James and Barbara lived in Malden for many years prior to moving to Wilmington in 1996. Prior to retiring, James worked at Lamson & Davis Hardware Store in Malden for many years. In his spare time, James enjoyed going to the ocean, fishing, gardening, walking his dog, listening to Irish music, and spending every spare moment cheering on his grandchildren at their various sporting events. James will be remembered by family and friends as a low key kind of guy who was very talented at fixing anything, always willing to help others, an animal lover, someone who was proud of their Irish Heritage, and a devoted family man. He will be greatly missed.

James was the beloved husband of the late Barbara A. (O’Donnell), devoted father of Caroline Maskell, Maureen Fruciano & her husband Tony and Mary Clerico & her husband Vinny all of Wilmington, loving grandfather of Ryan Maskell, Brianna, Christina, & Sophia Fruciano, Devin & Dylan Clerico, dear son of the late Patrick & Nellie (Nagle) Doran, brother of Eileen Moran of Malden and the late Christine O’Donnell of Charlestown.

Family & friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, June 6th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours Friday, June 5th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.

Memorial donations in James’ name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.

    AS I WRITE THIS LOVENOTE TO YOU ALL, CAROLINE, MAUREEN , AND MY GODCHILD MARY, AND YOUR LOVING FAMILIES, MY HEART BREAKS FOR WE HAVE ALL LOST A WONDERFUL MAN IN YOUR DAD. HE WAS FROM THE “OLD SCHOOL,” SUCH A GENTLEMAN HIS WHOLE LIFE. IN THE 48 YEARS I KNEW JIM, YOU COULD SEE HIS LOVE FOR BARBARA AND THEIR CHILDREN AND HIS SISTERS, CHRISTINE AND EILEEN. HE WAS A WONDERFUL CATHOLIC AND LOVED BY ALL. WE SHALL MISS HIM TOO MUCH BUT THE JOY IS, HE IS NOW IN HEAVEN WITH HIS LOVE OF HIS LIFE, HIS BARBARA. SHE IS DELIGHTED NOW HE CAME TO HER.
