Doris May (Allen) Squibb

August 12th, 2019

Doris May (Allen) Squibb, age 88, of Lynnfield, formerly of Andover and Wilmington, passed away surrounded by her loving family on August 7, 2019.

Doris was born on October 10,1930 in Arlington, MA. She was the cherished daughter of the late Walter F. Sr. and Beatrice V. (Lowe) Allen, and the dear sister of the late Walter Allen Jr.  Doris was raised in Medford, MA and graduated from Medford High School. She worked as an executive secretary for an insurance company in Boston, MA for several years before her marriage.

Doris met the “love of her life”, Irwin M. Squibb, many years ago. Both Doris and Irwin chased a spotlight with their friends that led them to the Somerville fairgrounds. When they met, it was “love at first sight”. Together, they raised five wonderful children and shared a lifetime of happy memories. Doris and Irwin enjoyed over 62 years of a loving marriage, until his passing in 2011.

Doris and Irwin started their lives together in Wilmington, MA. There they built a home, started their family and lived there for 15 years. Doris was a loving and dedicated mother; always showing her kindness, patience and endless caring ways. Doris and Irwin became founders of a local organization for special needs children in Wilmington, called PAFEC (Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children). They were pioneers with other families in the community to promote and develop a volunteer program to support advocacy for special education in Wilmington. They hosted many fundraising events that supported academic learning and developed social programs.

Later, Doris and Irwin settled in Andover, and lived there for over 40 years. Doris was right at home on her farm; where she loved nature and animals. It wasn’t unusual to see her feeding the birds and animals in her backyard.

Doris will be fondly remembered as a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. She will forever be missed by her family and friends.

Doris was the beloved wife of the late Irwin M. Squibb, devoted mother of Janet Squibb of Lynnfield, MA, Lee Squibb and his partner Christopher Champagney of Saco, ME, Carolyn Royal & her husband Stephen of North Andover, MA, Susan Kelly & her husband Kevin of Atkinson, NH and Patricia Poole & her husband Matthew of Santa Rosa, CA, Loving “Grammie” of Katherine Squibb and Mandy Moore, Meaghan Rhymer and her husband Brandon, Christopher Royal and his wife Megan, Erin Squibb and her husband Eric Wellman, Brandon Royal and his wife Courtney, Daniel Kelly and his wife Dana, Kristin Kelly and Fiance Jimmy Stevenson, Jenna Royal, Ryan, Rebecca and Jason Poole. It is with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of Doris. Doris and Irwin were like second parents to me growing up in Wilmington. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Squibb family.
