Dorothy L. (Madigan) Pinkerton

Dorothy L. (Madigan) Pinkerton, a long- time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at Woodbriar of Wilmington on February 17, 2014.

Born on July 12, 1923, in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Charles D. & Harriet (Landan) Madigan.

During World War II, Dorothy enlisted in 1944 in the U. S. Army WACS as part of the team that deciphered the German codes.  She was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant.

Following her marriage to Robert J. Pinkerton, they resided in Rockland, MA, until 1963 when they moved to Wilmington. 

During her career, Dorothy held various positions as Assistant Director and Director of Medical Records at Mass. Rehabilitation Hospital, Emerson Hospital, and Otis Hospital; retiring in 1991. Dorothy was a long time member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church.

Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband, and is survived by her sister-in-law Violet (Pinkerton) Culhane and her family of Rochester, NY.

Family and friends are invited to a Service to Celebrate Dorothy’s life on Monday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m. in the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 87 Church St. (Rte. 62), Wilmington.  A brief Committal Service will follow in the Veteran’s Section of Wildwood Cemetery.  There will be no visiting hours.  In lieu of flowers, gifts in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 87 Church St., Wilmington, MA  01887.
