Earl R. “Ray” Allen

Earl R. “Ray” Allen, age 93, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 24, 2019 at the Winchester Nursing Center.

Ray was the beloved husband of 63 years of Phyllis (Bradley) Allen, devoted father of David M. Allen of Wilmington, Barbara J. Griggs & her husband Douglas of Maryland and the late James A. Allen of Florida, loving “Grampa” of Daniel Griggs and Brian Griggs, cherished son of the late Arthur F. Allen and Charlotte C. (McClellan) Campbell, dear brother of Lois Smyth of Florida and the late William R. Allen, the late Ralph A. Allen & his wife Lorraine of Salem, MA. Ray is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Thursday, February 28th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon immediately followed by a Funeral Service at noon. The Service will conclude with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ray’s name may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 800 West Cummings Park, Suite 3100, Woburn, MA 01801.

Ray was a U.S. Navy Veteran who proudly served aboard USS Balch (DD-363) during WWII. He was a self-employed upholsterer for many years, then earned a Master’s degree in Education and taught Industrial Arts in the Medford Public School System for 24 years.
