Edith D. (Saponaro) Carrozza

Edith D. (Saponaro) Carrozza, of Wilmington, formerly of Revere & East Boston, at 93 years, died Friday, March 30th at Meadow View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in North Reading, following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Edith was born and raised in East Boston, she attended school there and graduated from East Boston High School, Class of 1937.

She entered the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps. in February of 1943 and served for 6 months, until August of 1943.

Edith married Ralph Carrozza, Sr. in 1945 and spent 64 years together “in richness and in health, in sickness . . .” until Ralph’s untimely death on November 22, 2009. They moved from East Boston to Revere in 1950 where they remained until 1975 when they made their final move to Wilmington.

Edith was the devoted mother of Rachel E. Stanchi & husband Carmen A. of Wilmington & Ralph Carrozza Jr. & his wife Sheilah of Salem, NH. Cherished grandmother of Michelle M. Stanchi of Wilmington, Michael R. Stanchi & wife Kathryn “Kate” of Winthrop, Susan M. Carrozza of Malden & Christine A. Carrozza of Billerica. Dear sister of Emma Gomez of Epping, NH, Anthony Saponaro of Revere and the late Romaine Langone, Helen Parrelli, Lucy LaScola, Armando “Willie” & Joseph Saponaro. Mother-in-law of the late Frances E. Carrozza. Edith is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, Grand-nieces, and Grand-nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday, April 2nd from 4 to 7pm in the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rt. 62) WILMINGTON followed by the funeral service in the funeral home at 7:15pm. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers rememberances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
