Elaine was born on June 4, 1922. She was raised and educated in Wilmington.
Elaine was married to Robert J. Ahern, Sr. for over 70 years, they made their home on Wildwood Street in Wilmington where they raised their five children; Robert Jr., Susie, Patricia, William, and Robin. Family was most important to Elaine; she was a devoted and loving mother and she cherished her role as “Nanni” to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elaine was a wonderful homemaker who took great pride in her house; she had an open door policy and all were welcome. Elaine was an avid gardener and an excellent cook who loved to entertain her family and friends; she was always the ultimate hostess..
Family cookouts, holidays, special occasions, or just a Sunday dinner; Elaine always looked forward to the time spent with her family and a good time was had by all.
Elaine treasured the times spent with her daughter Susie; the enjoyed traveling, going to the beach and to Las Vegas, they loved to shop, and were always up for a game of bingo.
Elaine will be fondly remembered as a sweet lady and for her kindness towards others; she was cherished by all who knew and loved her especially her grandsons Shawn, Kelly and his fiance Sandy, Michael, and Eddie. She will be missed.
Elaine was the devoted mother of Robert J. Ahern, Jr., the late Simone “Susie” Murray, Patricia Sliver, William Ahern and Robin Cote, loving “Nani” of 20 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many great great-grandchildren, cherished daughter of the late Marie and James A. Lafave and Percy Newhouse, dear sister of Pearl Borthwick and James Lafave. Elaine is also survived by close family friend Donna Beaudoin and her son, Eddie.
Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Monday, September 21st from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St., (Rte. 38), Wilmington at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Memorial donations in Elaine’s name may be made to St. Jude, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
