Eleanor was born into a large and loving family on April 26, 1933; she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Annie (Connors) Gillis and one of several siblings. Eleanor was raised in the “Federal Gardens” section of Wilmington where she was part of a tight-knit neighborhood of many relatives and close friends. Eleanor was educated in Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1950?
Eleanor married William “Bill” Cameron more than 58 years ago; together they built their own home in Federal Gardens and raised four wonderful children, Kevin, Lisa, Erin, and Kerry. Eleanor was a wonderful homemaker, she had an open door policy for her family and all of their friends. Eleanor was a wonderful baker who shared her many treats with family and friends over the years and was always there to lend hand or an ear over a much needed cup of tea.
Eleanor cherished the time spent with her family especially her grandchildren; she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. All would agree that she was very loving and kind; always putting others needs ahead of her own.
For many years Eleanor worked as an inspector for the Gillette Company in Wilmington; her endearing personality and great work ethic made her quite an asset to the company.
In her spare time, Eleanor loved to travel, take long walks, and try her luck at Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods Casinos.
Eleanor was a very religious woman and an avid communicant of St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Wilmington. Eleanor’s faith helped her through many difficult times in life and she not only prayed for her own family and friends but for all who need prayers in their life.
Eleanor will be fondly remembered as quite a “lady”, caring, loyal, and always willing to help anyone in need. Eleanor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Eleanor was the beloved wife of William C. Cameron, devoted mother of Kevin Cameron & wife Denise of Claremont, NH, Erin Cameron of Andover, Kerry Feyler & husband Dave of Wilmington, and the late Lisa Cameron. Loving “Grandma” of Kasey, Ryan & wife Stephanie, and Anne Marie Cameron, Danny and Michael Feyler, and great-granddaughter Taya Cameron. Cherished daughter of the late Malcolm and Annie (Connors) Gillis, dear sister of Edward Gillis & his late wife Kay of Wilmington, Richard Gillis & wife Joyce of Lexington, the late George, James, John, Mary V. “Mimi”, and Mary Theresa Gillis. Sister-in-law of Dorothy Gillis of North Reading and Peg Rogers of Peabody. Eleanor is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family & friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Tuesday, March 29th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, March 28th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Eleanor’s name may be made to VNA of Middlesex East and Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Ave., Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
