May 11th, 2016

Ellen A. Bassett (Casey), age 42, of North Reading, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, died unexpectedly on May 7, 2016, while on vacation in Aruba.

Ellen was born on November 20, 1973, in Winchester, MA; she was the cherished daughter of Joseph and Alice Casey. Ellen was raised in Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1991.

Ellen married her beloved husband and best friend, Charles “C.J.” Bassett and the couple shared many special times throughout the years with family and friends. Ellen and C.J. became parents with the birth of their son Ryan and their world became even more enriched; Ryan was the center of their world and Ellen cherished being a “mom”. Ellen was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a wonderful homemaker; her door was always open to family and friends and she truly enjoyed being a “caretaker” to anyone who needed some extra love in their life.

Ellen was known to be an “adventurer”; she loved to travel to new places and meet new people; she was always very friendly and kind to everyone. Ellen’s travels took her near and far; some of her special places included Newburyport, Rockport, Bar Harbor, Wells Maine, Ireland and Aruba, she loved to walk along the ocean and enjoy the shoreline. Always a kid at heart, Ellen also looked forward to the Disney World trips with her family and friends; these were some great vacations that will be treasured for years to come.

Ellen will be fondly remembered for her love of children; she was a wonderful “Auntie” to her nieces and nephews as well as her friend’s children. Ellen enjoyed the innocence of children and she always showered them with unconditional love. Ellen loved her family and friends with all her heart; she was kind, caring, dependable, and would do anything for them.

Ellen will forever be in the hearts and minds of all that knew and loved her.

Ellen was the beloved wife of Charles J. Bassett, devoted mother of Ryan C. Bassett and his girlfriend Mia Griffin all of North Reading, cherished daughter of Joseph P. and Alice J. (Hudson) Casey of Wilmington, dear sister of Patrick Casey of North Andover, Cheryl Welch & husband Brad of North Reading, Joseph Casey and his fiancé Mary Adcock of Columbus, OH, and Sean Casey & wife Christine of Wilmington. Loving Aunt of Nicole, Brad, & Andrew Welch and MacKenzie, Sadie, and the late Madison Casey. Daughter-in-law of Charles and Joyce Bassett, sister-in-law of Craig Bassett all of Lynn. Ellen is also survived by Alyssa and Lillian Murphy with whom she shared a special relationship as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends .
