Francis J. Dunn, fondly known as Frank to his family and friends, a long-time resident of Wilmington died peacefully on May 23, 2015, at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was 83 years old.
Frank was born on September 24, 1931 in Boston, MA; he was raised and cherished by Stanley and Mary Doherty in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School.
Following graduation, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on December 22, 1950, proudly serving the country during the Korean War. After four years of dedicated service, Frank was honorably discharged on December 6, 1954, and returned home to Malden.
Soon after his return from the service, Frank went to work for the Boston Gas company as a salesman. Frank had a great personality and a kind way with people which made him quite a success in his field. Throughout the years the company made some changes and did away with the sales department but they kept Frank as a valued employee and he finally retired after more than 40 years with the company. Following his retirement from the Gas Company, Frank took a position as a bus driver for children with special needs in the town of Wilmington. Frank really loved his job, he not only made great relationships with these kids but they became life-long friends and visited him long after they graduated.
Frank met the love of his life and his future bride Patricia MacDonald and the couple married in 1966; sharing nearly 49 years of marriage. Frank and Pat lived in Malden for several years before moving to Wilmington more than 41 years ago. Frank loved raising his family in the country, they were always his number one priority. Frank spent countless hours coaching his sons as well as the neighborhood kids in Wilmington Little League and Wilmington Youth Hockey; anything for the kids.
Frank and his family enjoyed many trips to Hampton Beach where they made wonderful memories and a great time was had by all.
In his spare time, Frank could be found working out in the yard and tending to his gardens or watching any type of sporting event with his family and friends.
Frank will be remembered for his big personality, a wonderful sense of humor, and a great smile; everyone loved to be around Frank and he will truly be missed by his family and friends.
