Frank A. Spear

Frank A. Spear, age 83 of Easthampton MA, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, MA, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2020.

Frank was the dearly loved husband of the late Shirley L. Spear, devoted father of three children: Dianne S. Buck and her husband James of Wilmington MA; Danny S. Spear and his wife Jane of Mystic, CT, Richard A. Spear and his wife Patti of Wilder VT. Papa to seven Grandchildren; Scott Buck and his wife Kristen, Greg Buck, Bryant Buck, Julie Scherer and her husband Kevin, Erin Jordan and her husband Jacob, Shawn Spear and his wife Shannon and Kara Latchaw and her husband Bob, as well as seven Great-Grandchildren; Parker and Hadley Buck, Peter and Henry Scherer, Carter and Emerson Spear and Willow Latchaw. He also leaves his sister Celia Cornish of Wilmington MA and beloved companion Jean Roberts of Easthampton MA.

He was born in Quincy MA on August 3, 1936, the son of Arthur and Florence Spear. As a child he moved to Wilmington MA where he was educated in local schools, graduating from Wilmington High School with the class of 1954. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served several years as an aircraft mechanic in support of the Korean Conflict. Following the Air Force Mr. Spear had a long career in the field of Optical Design and Engineering.

Mr. Spear always enjoyed sports and the outdoors. He participated in multiple sports while at Wilmington High School, and coached and/or managed both Wilmington Little League and Youth Hockey for many years. He later refined his golf game as a member of the Holyoke Country Club. He was most proud of his years hiking and hunting in the Maine woods with his Grandsons.

All funeral arrangements will be private. The Nichols Funeral Home has been entrusted with a graveside memorial service for the immediate family.
