Frank E. Darling, Jr., age 85 of Chichester, NH formerly of Wilmington, MA, died peacefully with his family at his side on January 29, 2017.
Frank was born in Woburn, MA on October 15, 1931; he was the dear son of the late Frank and Dorothy Darling. Frank was raised and educated in Wilmington, MA and was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1949. On June 2, 1952, Frank enlisted in the United States Air Force to serve the country during the Korean War. Frank served overseas as a Staff Sergeant for the Air Force; following his return he was honorably discharged in June of 1956 and returned home to his family.
Frank married his “sweetheart” Helen Peitzsch in 1951; celebrating over 65 years of marriage and together they raised six wonderful children. Frank was a hard worker and took pride in everything he did; following his return from active duty in the Air Force he built a home for his family on Eames Street in Wilmington where they lived for over 25 years.
Always an entrepreneur, Frank started his own company and was the proud owner and operator for Franks Amoco in Wilmington. Frank was an excellent mechanic and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix; he had the reputation of being a “man of all trades” and he was always willing to help others. When the work week came to an end it was Saturday that was a fun day at Frank’s Amoco it was when all of the “guys” got together at the Gas Station and would hang out for the afternoon.
Frank was also active in the community and served as Past President of the Wilmington Lions Club where he was a member for many years.
In 1977, Frank relocated his family to Chichester, New Hampshire where they bought a beautiful Victorian home and working farm. Frank again went right to work farming the land and taking care of the farm animals. Frank’s talents were endless and with his construction skills he was able to turn the barn into a banquet hall which hosted many functions and family celebrations throughout the years.
In his spare time, Frank enjoyed doing puzzles, playing the guitar and violin, listening to music especially original country tunes, and watching old western movies; he was the ultimate “True Grit”.
Frank will be fondly remembered for his love and devotion to his family and friends, he was hardworking, talented, and generous of his time and talents. Frank was quite a guy and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
