Frederick A. Melvin, Jr.

Frederick (Sonny) Andrew Melvin, Jr. of Brooksville, FL died on Tuesday, December 20, 2016.

He was 85. He was born on August 30, 1931.

In 1951, he married Margaret (Peg) Duggan and together they had 4 children, 10 grand children, and 5 great-grandchildren.

As a youth, Fred served in the US Merchant Marine where he traveled around the world as a Seaman until he joined the US Army to serve his country in the Korean Conflict.

After his service, he worked as a truck driver for Capital Motors and for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

He raised his family in Tewksbury MA. He later moved to Venice, FL, where he was a school custodian from which and retired with his wife to their current home in Brooksville, FL.

Fred loved family and his country very deeply. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Kathy (Melvin) Boyle, and sons Frederick (Ted) Andrew Melvin III, Edward Melvin, and Kevin Melvin.

A Memorial Service organized by Nichols Funeral Home will be held at 187 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, MA 01887. Visiting hours will be Thursday, December 29th from 2:30-6:30PM. A Funeral will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, December 30th at the Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Fred’s name to the American Heart Association at http://honor.americanheart.org/goto/FrederickAndrewMelvin.
