Friedrich, Mary A.

November 23rd, 2011

Mary Anna Friedrich was born in Long Beach on Sept.16, 1936 and passed away on Nov. 11 in the loving arms of her husband, Eugene. The couple was formerly residents of Greenwood, and Eugene is a former employee of the Gazette. Mary was the daughter of Orville and Esta Ward, and lived in various cities and states during her father’s time in the Army.

Mary was a 1954 graduate of Culver City High School, a 1956 graduate of business school, and trained and worked with Pacific Bell Telephone in Hollywood. She met and married Eugene L. Friedrich in Westminster in 1955. The couple had two children – Steven and Teresa Lynn.

Eugene and Mary lived in Southern California until their children were in middle school, then moved to Northern California and lived in Cupertino and Saratoga to be near Eugene’s mother in Sunnyvale.

The couple owned and operated Century 21 Moorpark Realtors in Cupertino, where Mary was the administrator and office manager. After selling that company, they became partners in a new company called RE/MAX.

Mary and Eugene were members of the Valley Church in Cupertino, where both were active in administration, teaching Sunday school classes, youth groups and outreach trips to Billy Graham Crusades. Through the church, the couple became missionaries living and serving in a multitude of long- and short-term mission organizations in Mexico, Central and South America, Russia, Romania, Germany, Hungary and Israel. As a pilot, Eugene taught Mary to fly as his co-pilot and navigator.

Mary is survived by her husband, Eugene; daughter, Teresa Lynn Ansill (Glenn); and two grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Robertson.

A gift in Mary’s name to a good Christian ministry is the only request of her family.
