Gabriel P. Teixeira

November 19th, 2013

Gabriel P. Teixeira, fondly known as “Tex” to his family and friends, age 85, of Derry, NH, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, MA and Jay, ME, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2013 at the Hanover Hill Nursing Home in Manchester, NH.

Gabriel was born on May 8, 1928 in Middletown, RI.  He was the cherished son of the late Jacintho and Mary (Cavalho) Teixeira.  Gabriel was raised and educated in Newport, RI.

Gabriel joined the Army Air Corp. on January 8, 1946 at the young age of seventeen.  While serving in the Army, Gabriel worked with the Crash Fire Fighting Unit.  Gabriel was very proud of his Military Service during World War II and he was honorably discharged on March 20, 1947 in Craig Field, Alabama; returning home to his family in Rhode Island.

Gabriel married Naomi (Johnson) Teixeira on May 8, 1954, celebrating over 59 years of marriage.  Gabriel and Naomi lived close to her family in Wilmington until 1989 when they retired to Jay, Maine.

Thinking of having a career in music, Gabriel came to Boston to use his talents as a singer; he sang at Supper Clubs and Night Clubs.  Gabriel didn’t find that as lucrative as he thought so he went to work as an Ironworker for Union Local #7 in Boston.  Gabriel was a hard worker and he loved his job.  Following 27 years as a dedicated and faithful employee, Gabriel finally retired to Maine with his wife Naomi.

Gabriel returned to his true passion of singing and joined the choir at the Rose of Lima Church where he sang for ten years and made many friends.

Gabriel was a life-long member of the Army Vets Post #33 based out of Jay, ME.  He was also a fourth degree Knights of Columbus member.

Gabriel was the beloved husband of Naomi (Johnson) Teixeira of Derry, NH, cherished son of the late Jacintho and Maria (Cavalho) Teixeira, dear brother of the late Manuel Teixeira, late John Teixeira and the late Mary Hull. Gabriel was  the brother-in-law of Virginia and her husband, the late Arthur Dewey Johnson of Wilmington, uncle of Yvette (Johnson) Atkinson and her husband Tom of Londonderry, NH, Dewey Johnson and his wife Michelle, and Kristen Johnson all of Wilmington and is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, November 22nd at 11:30 a.m. followed by a Graveside Service with Military Honors in the Veterans section at the Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, at 12:00 noon.  Memorial donations in Gabriel’s name may be made to Local Heroes, Inc., P. O. Box 536, Wilmington, MA  01887.
