September 14th, 2019

Geraldine V. Lurvey (Downey), “Gerry”, age 96 of Francestown, NH, formerly of Wilmington, MA and Windham, NH, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 12, 2019.

Gerry was born in Brookline, MA on February 14, 1923; she was the dear daughter of the late James and Isabelle Downey. Gerry was raised in a large, loving family who grew up in Swampscott and Hopkinton. Gerry was a graduate of Roslindale High School with the Class of 1940. Throughout her life, Gerry, was known to be quite an athlete and a beautiful figure skater; she was invited to join the Ice Follies because of her talent and gracefulness on the ice.

On April 18, 1948, Gerry married the “love of her life” Alvan Lurvey; the couple lived in Framingham before moving to Wilmington in 1966. Gerry was extremely devoted to her family; they were the center of her world. She was very proud of all their accomplishments and took every opportunity to shower them with unconditional love and affection.

Gerry made a wonderful home in Wilmington where all were welcome; she entertained family and friends on a regular basis and tempted them with her amazing meals. Gerry was known to be a fabulous cook who liked to “force feed” anyone and everyone who was at her table. Gerry was an avid gardener whose garden spanned more than an acre in her back yard in Wilmington; she had quite a green thumb with her vegetables as well as her flowers.

As their family grew and went in their own directions; Gerry and Alvan built a home on their land in Francestown, New Hampshire. Gerry’s loved Francestown; it was her “little piece of heaven on earth”. Family and friends alike were always welcome; she definitely had an “open door policy” wherever she lived.

When her health was declining, Gerry and Alvan, relocated to Windham, New Hampshire where they were closer to family and made their home for over 13 years. Gerry was a welcomed addition to the neighborhood, and she made many friends there throughout the years.

Later in life, Gerry, took up painting and she was a natural talent. Her paintings and art creations were just beautiful and will be treasured by family for generations to come.

Gerry will be fondly remembered as a “simple lady” with a great sense of humor and an endearing personality. She had the ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved; she was kind, caring and always giving of herself towards others. Gerry was truly special and will forever be in the hearts and minds of those she loved.

Gerry was the beloved wife of 71 years to Alvan R. Lurvey, devoted mother of James Lurvey of Marco Island, FL, Linda Lurvey of Bedford, NH and Bob Lurvey & his wife Deb of North Andover, MA. Loving “Mimi” of Garth Lurvey, Holly Lurvey & husband Jason Beane, Heather Robison & husband Justin, Steven Kreatz & wife Kathryn, Daniel Kreatz & wife Amanda, Haley Loiseau & husband Scott, Adam Lurvey, Dylan Lurvey, Jaclyn Lurvey and great-grandchildren Brandon, Skyla, Brianna, Ainsley, Quinn, Cameron, Aidan, Victoria, Ava, Emma, Lily, Summer and Mila.
