Gerard Forgett, Sr.

Gerard Forgett, Sr., age 73, of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2020.

Gerard was born on July 14, 1947 in Cambridge, MA; he was the son of the late Arthur E. and Eileen (Sullivan) Forgett. Gerard was raised in Cambridge, MA and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Following graduation, Gerard attended Lydon State College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. After entering the workforce, Gerard returned to school and earned his master’s degree from Northeastern University.

Gerard worked in human resources for several departments in the federal government.

Gerard married Mary Elizabeth (Osgood) on May 26, 1973. The couple moved to Wilmington in 1975, where they raised their three children, Gerard, Jr., Jaime and Kevin. They enjoyed many family memories such as holidays and trips.

Gerard was involved with the community. He was well-known for his commitment and dedication to the Wilmington Recreation Basketball Program for over twenty years. Gerard volunteered countless hours organizing schedules, uniforms, and gymnasiums, but his focus was to teach the kids how to play basketball. Gerard was respected by the players, parents, and coaches.

In his spare time, Gerard enjoyed golfing and played basketball into his sixties.

Gerard will be remembered as a loving husband, father and “Papa”. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Gerard was the beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth (Osgood) Forgett, devoted father of Gerard Forgett, Jr. & his wife Stephanie, Jaime Pickles & her husband John all of Methuen and Kevin Forgett & his wife Emily of Denver, CO, loving “Papa” of Hailee, Courtnee, Thomas, Ryan, Annie and Caroline, cherished son of the late Arthur E. and Eileen (Sullivan) Forgett, dear brother of Lawrence “Lonnie” Forgett & his wife Helen of Boston and the late Arthur Forgett & his wife Carol of Woburn. Gerard is also survived by his brother-in-law Paul Osgood of Lynn, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington on Monday, August 31st from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A Graveside Funeral Service will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, 233 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington on Tuesday, September 1st at 10:00 a.m. All guests are required to wear masks in the Funeral Home.

Memorial donations in Gerard’s name may be made to American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.

    Something pulled me today to the Nichols site after just returning back from Vermont, and here I am devestated to read of Gerand’s passing. Teresa and I are so shocked and dishearten. To all of you are prayers and thoughts are with you. Our great memories of our times togeather as the kids grew up. The most appreciated time we spent in NH on those labor day weekends, and to the times on the soccer fields. The memories of serving with Gerard on the board and coaching togeather will always be there. I think of Gerard as truly a loving person, gentleman, and someone I was futunate to have known. Mary be strong as Gerand would want you to be. Kids cherish your memories and help mom through this very sad and emotional time.

    Odette and I just became aware of Gerard’s Passing. We are truly sorry for your loss. He will be in our prayers. We had good times on the soccer field and I learned a lot being his assistant coach. He will be missed.
