Gloria A. Hayes

Gloria A. Hayes, (Wardynski), age 86, of Wilmington, formerly a long-time resident of Allston, passed away on April 17, 2021, at the Winchester Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Gloria was born on October 8, 1934, in Boston, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late John and Mary Wardynski. Gloria was raised in the West End of Boston before moving to Allston where she lived for many years.

Gloria married the “love of her life” Leo Hayes in 1957; the couple raised two wonderful children Donna and Leo Jr. and had many great times together before his untimely passing in 1993.

Gloria’s family was her number one priority and she always showered her family with unconditional love and devotion. Her home was always open to family and friends; she made everyone feel welcomed and loved. Gloria was a good cook who enjoyed having everyone around her table; she made family holidays and celebrations special. Gloria looked forward to the “fun family times” they shared at Wyman’s Beach, the drive in movies, Pizzeria Regina and family vacations; she was always so upbeat and made everything very fun and exciting. Gloria’s life became more enriched when she became a “Nana” to her three grandchildren and “Gigi” to her six great-grandchildren; she adored those kids and looked forward to the many adventures they had together throughout the years.

Gloria had a great personality; she was very sociable, outgoing and friendly towards everyone. Gloria loved to dance and she never missed a party or an opportunity to celebrate with her family and friends. She was a lot of fun to be around; a “hot ticket” who always looked for a the good in everyone.

Gloria was a woman of strong faith, she loved her God and was an active communicant in her Church throughout the years. Gloria leaned on her faith through life’s challenges that were thrown her way, especially the death of her husband and son; she never waivered in her faith and drew strength to help her family go on.

Gloria will be fondly remembered as a lovely lady who reached out to help anyone in need. She was so upbeat and fun; she had a great sense of humor, an infectious laugh and a beautiful smile. Gloria’s endearing personality drew people close to her; she was dearly loved by so many and will forever be in their hearts.

Gloria was the beloved wife of the late Leo J. Hayes, Sr., devoted mother of Donna M. Biggins & her husband Stephen of Wilmington and the late Leo J. Hayes, Jr. Loving “Nana” of Jill & Steve Ventre of Tewksbury, Stephen Biggins & Fiancé Jenni Surprenant of Wilmington, Michael & Kristen Hayes of Framingham and “Gigi” to her great-grandchildren Katelyn, Alissa, Ryan, Emily, Gabby and Liam. Cherished daughter of the late John and Mary (Torrone) Wardynski, dear sister of Dorothy “Dotty” Tehan of Allston, Richie Wardynski & his wife Mary of Charlestown, the late Johnny Wardynski and the late Anthony “Sonny” Wardynski. Gloria is also survived by her nieces, nephews and their families.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Wednesday, April 21st from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, April 22nd at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA. Interment will follow in Mount Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. Masks are required to be worn while in the Funeral Home and in Church.

    We are so heartbroken over the loss of Gloria. Such a sweet lady, filled with smiles and love. Gloria was Stella’s family, a niece, a friend and a church partner. She has been very missed for a long time. Rest in peace & love Gloria.
