Gordon L. Siteman

Gordon L. Siteman, age 98, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2019 at Windsor Place in Wilmington.

Gordon was born on August 11, 1920 in Cambridge, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Addington L. and Frances (Richardson) Siteman. Gordon was raised in Cambridge as part of a large, loving family of 8 children.

Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August 17, 1942; he spent the next ten years serving in WWII and the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Indiana, U.S.S. Lexington and the U.S.S. Worcester. His tours of duty took him throughout the Asiatic Pacific Theatre as well as along the American shores. After several years of dedicated service to his country, Gordon was honorably discharged on April 13, 1952.

In 1945 Gordon married Dorothy (Newell) Siteman. The couple moved to Wilmington after his discharge, where Gordon and his father-in-law built their family home on Oakdale Road in 1952. They resided in their home for more than 63 years, where they raised their two children, Gordon and Arleen. Gordon enjoyed taking pride in his home and his yard.

Prior to retiring, Gordon, worked for the Carpenter’s Union for many years; his was known to be quite a talented carpenter who thoroughly enjoyed his job.

In his spare time, Gordon liked to spend time with his friends, the “coffee group” who met for breakfast at the Country Chef for more than ten years. In recent time, the coffee group visited Gordon every week at Windsor Place to have coffee and catch up on current events.

Gordon will be remembered as a nice person with a “sunny” personality. He always had a positive outlook and a kind word for everyone. He was a reliable father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Gordon was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Newell) Siteman, devoted father of Gordon W. Siteman & his wife Lucille of Stowe, VT and the late Arleen Anderson & her husband Robert of Westford, loving “Grampa” of Kerry Anderson, Jeffrey Siteman & his wife Ashly and Elizabeth Bailey & her husband Brad, “Great-Grampa” of Ryan, Eva, Norah, Leo & Penny. Gordon is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends gathered for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Sunday, March 17th from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 4:30 p.m. A Graveside Service with Military Honors took place at the Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, on Monday, March 18th at 10:00 a.m.
