Grace T. (Fasciano) Block

Grace T. (Fasciano) Block, age 95, of Stoneham, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2014, surrounded by her loving family at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Stoneham.

Grace was born on April 8, 1919 in Boston, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late John and Damiana (Englislia) Fasciano. Grace was raised in East Boston as part of a large Italian family.

Grace married the love of her life, Ralph E. Block, on October 29, 1940 and the couple shared 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2000. Grace and Ralph spent their first couple of years in the city before moving their growing family to Wilmington in 1946. They settled on North Street, where they raised their four children; Lorraine, John, Esther and Ralph.

Grace went to work for Transitron in Wakefield and Compugraphic in Wilmington. She worked diligently at assembling circuit boards during the time when the assembly was done manually. Grace worked for many years before leaving to take care of her home and family full-time.

Grace was an excellent cook; she could make a dynamite Italian sauce and was still making her delicious recipe until the age of 94. Grace also loved to prepare for the holidays; each year she made her Italian cookies and her cinnamon apple bread. Grace also enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and ceramics. Throughout the years, Grace made special ceramic pieces for her family and friends to enjoy.

Grace will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by those that knew and loved her.

Grace was the beloved wife of the late Ralph E. Block, loving mother of Lorrraine Block Bousfield and her husband Robert of Oakland, FL, Esther Block and George Dobson of Woburn, Ralph Block and his wife Lisa Saunders of No. Chelmsford and John Block of NJ, cherished “Ma” of Diana Bousfield, Carl Bousfield, Brian Bousfield, Sheryl Elliott, Peter Cyrus, Christopher Block, David Block, Anthony Block and Joseph Block, great-grandmother of Michael, Christopher, Joshua, Auston, Allie, Eddie, Jana, Jillian and Christopher cherished daughter of the late John and Damiana (Englislia) Fasciano, dear sister of the late Catherine Mori, Rose Hedeen, Santo Fasciano, Bridget Marrotta, Josephine Caputo and Alfonso Fasciano, close and dear friend of Sister Mildred Rothwell. Grace is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave, (Rt. 62), Wilmington, for a Funeral Service on Tuesday, August 5th, at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, August 4th, from 4-8 p.m. Memorial donations in Grace’s name can be made to American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
