Halliday, Daniel “Bruno”

May 28th, 2010

Daniel Bruno Halliday, age 69, of Wilmington, died peacefully at home on Friday, May 28, 2010, with his family at his side.

Daniel was born on August 16, 1940, in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the dear son of the late Cecil C. and Mary Catherine (MacNeil) Halliday. He moved to Wilmington in 1956 at the age of 16 and resided there for the remainder of his life. Daniel was employed at the Hemphill Blasting and Drilling Company as a blaster until his retirement in 2006.

Daniel also loved to build and work with wood, he was meticulous in his workmanship and extremely talented. He took much pride in his work and it showed, there wasn’t any job that was too big or too small, he could construct an entire addition right down to building the furnishings and making the draperies. Daniel was also known for taking care of others and often helping them with their own projects. He was a hard worker with endless energy, a “take charge” person who could organize a job and orchestrate it until the finish.

When he was not working, Daniel enjoyed spending time with his family, he loved to have family gatherings and would use any reason to have a party. He traveled “down east” every year to spent time with his family in Canada. Daniel will be fondly remembered as a man of his word, trustworthy, genuine, sincere, he didn’t tolerate gossiping and was the ultimate gentleman. Many will recall his devotion to his family and their famous nicknames for him of “Bruno” and “the Pointer”. Daniel was very kind and caring, he will be missed greatly by his family and many friends.

Daniel was the beloved husband and best friend of Dorothy A. (Sanborn) Halliday, devoted father of Daniel Halliday & his wife Sonja, Garth Halliday, Brad Halliday, Scott Halliday, Chad Halliday, and Dorothy Plouffe & her husband Jesse, loving grandfather of Dillon, Cody, Ryan, Matthew, Katlyn, Alicia, Merrily, Vanessa, Courtney, Jake, Sydney, Molly, Sullivan, Cecil, Nicolas, Juliet, and Sophia, dear brother of Sheila Marie Dennis, Colin F.
