Harvey P. Hudson

Harvey P. Hudson, age 99, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2018, at Woodbriar of Wilmington.

Harvey was born on May 16, 1918, in Caribou, ME; he was the dear son of the late Albert and Jane Hudson. Harvey moved with his family to Medford, MA, when he was a young boy. Harvey was educated in Medford and a graduate of Medford High School.

Harvey was inducted into the United States Army on April 16, 1942; following boot camp he was assigned to Company A 350 1st Engineer Combat Battalion where he was an Amphibious Engineer. Harvey proudly served during several battles and campaigns including Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes, Algeria French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Normandy and in Northern France. He received commendations for his brave service including the Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Arrowhead. In June of 1945, Harvey, was honorably discharged and returned home to his family.

On July 9, 1948, Harvey married his “sweetheart” Jessie Catherine McLeod; the couple moved to Wilmington in 1949 where they raised eight children. Harvey worked hard for his family; prior to retiring he worked at the Cork Engineering Company in Charlestown for many years.

In his spare time, Harvey enjoyed going on “Road trips” with his wife Jessie and their dog Poncho; they would jump in the car and head to their camp in Maine or to their land on Cape Breton island in Canada.

Harvey also liked following New England Sports teams especially the Red Sox and Patriots, but the Bruins were his all time favorite team to watch.

Harvey will be fondly remembered as a great story teller, a talented carpenter, an animal lover and a proud American. He loved to throw his own birthday parties every May 16th and spend that time spoiling his grandchildren; he always made his birthday about them. Harvey was a very devoted family man and a good friend to many; he will be greatly missed.

Harvey was the beloved husband of the late Jessie C. (McLeod) Hudson, devoted father of Donald Hudson & wife Carla of Arizona, Marjorie Hudson-Fairfield & husband Kenneth of Westbrook, ME, Alice Casey & husband Joseph of Moody, ME, Douglas Hudson & wife Michele and James Hudson & wife Mary all of Wilmington, Bruce Hudson & wife Stacey of South Carolina, Janet Guazzaloca of Reading and the late Brian Hudson. Loving “Buppa” of Scott, Carrie, Eddie, Michael, Kris, Matthew, Patrick, Ellen, Cheryl, Joseph, Sean, Stephanie, Michelle, James, Philip, Kristen, Tommy, Michael, Aaron, Virginia, and Eric as well as 21 Great-Grandchildren. Dear son of the late Albert and Janet (Hovey) Hudson, brother of the late Ralph, Bob, Jim, Margaret, Mildred and Gertrude. Harvey is survived by his sister-in-law Nancy Hudson of Dover, NH as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Saturday, April 28th for Visitation from 9:00-10:30 a.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody, MA.

In lieu of flowers donations in Harvey’s memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 24 Beacon St., Boston, MA 02133.

    We’re so happy Uncle Harvey got to celebrate his 100 years last Saturday. He was a wonderful person and we love and miss him. His was a life well-lived. The bond between Uncle Harvey and his dog Louie was something beautiful to behold. His kindness toward his family meant the world to us.
