Healy, Maurice

Maurice John Healy , age 76, of Wilmington, MA, formerly of Spring Lake, New Jersey, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.

Maurice was born on May 1, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the cherished son of the late Jeremiah and Margaret (Deignan) Healy.

Maurice received his BA from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana and his MA from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont.

Maurice was a high school history teacher in the Brothers of the Holy Cross Schools in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and California for twenty years, at this time he was a member of the Brothers of the Holy Cross.

Upon leaving the Brothers of the Holy Cross, Maurice worked for Exxon Company for twenty years as an operator in the Exxon Refinery in Linden, New Jersey.

Maurice was very active in the Democratic Party in Spring Lake Heights and Wall Township, New Jersey.

Maurice was also a Boy Scout Leader in St. Catharine’s Church in Spring Lake, New Jersey. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Catharine’s Church for many years. Maurice was an avid reader of history and political books, he also continually educated himself about Jesus and the Catholic Church.

Maurice lived in New Jersey for many years before moving to Wilmington, Massachusetts to be closer to family.

Maurice’s greatest love was his family, he was a very devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Beloved husband of Marylou (Gillard) Healy, devoted father of John Maurice Healy and his wife Michele (Semonelli) all of Wilmington and James Jeremiah Healy and his wife Cathie (Sweetman) of Dublin, Ireland, loving grandfather of Kaelin and Courtney Healy of Wilmington and Orlaith Healy of Dublin Ireland, dear brother of the late Sister Margaret Healy of the Trinitarian Order of Sisters of the Catholic Church.

Family and friends will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, on Tuesday, May 24th at 12:00 noon. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc.,187 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA
